Sears Holdings, which owns Sears department stores and Kmart, filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 15. In previous court filings, it has said it was in talks with ESL about a “going concern bid” that could help the company emerge from bankruptcy.
The Commerce Department said the trade deficit increased 1.7 percent to $55.5 billion, the highest level since October 2008. The trade gap has now widened for five straight months. Data for September was revised to show the deficit rising to $54.6 billion instead of the previously reported $54.0 billion.
As of 5:50 a.m., ET Thursday, futures indicated that the Dow would open 446.07 points lower on Thursday. S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures also pointed to a lower open across Wall Street.
